Resumen

Consolidation study towards the definition of a ESA Scout Mission. Four different ESA Scout mission proposals were shortlisted to proceed with the Consolidation Studies, before ESA selects one or two of them for implementation, launch and operations. The HydroGNSS is a GNSS-R constellation of 2 LEOs in near-polar orbit to provide four Essential Climate Variables (ECV): Soil Moisture, Above Ground Biomass, Permafrost F/T status, and Flooding/inundation status.

Actividades del proyecto

The objective of the contract is to refine the mission proposal. Our group contribution focused on design and applications of the 'coherence channel', a new type of data stream that HydroGNSS would produce, at very high rate, short integration time, and keeping both amplitude and phase (or InPhase/Quadrature) information of the reflected electromagnetic fields. The group was also in charge of the orbital and coverage simulations.
