Remote Sensing for Climate Change Resilient Wildfire Management

“As climate change worsens fire weather and increases the number of areas burned by wildfires worldwide, high-tech solutions are critical to changing how wildfires are battled. Remote sensing technologies provide access to dynamic and real-time information that helps fire managers to better understand the likelihood of a catastrophic bushfire, the whereabouts and intensity of active fires and accurately assess wildfire scale and environmental impacts. This remote sensing-derived information is critical to plan, prepare and respond to future wildfires. In this talk, Prof. Marta Yebra will provide an overview of the technological trends including sensor integration, planned satellite earth observing missions and state-of-the-art modelling approaches”

Será impartida por la Prof. Marta Yebra de la Universidad Nacional de Australia (ANU), Fenner School of Environment & Society and the School of Engineering. La Dra. Yebra es Directora del Bushfire Research Centre of Excellence apoyado por Anu y Optus, cuyo objetivo es proteger a Australia de incendios forestales catastróficos. También es especialista en misiones del ANU Institute for Space. Su investigación se centra en el desarrollo de aplicaciones de teledetección para la gestión del riesgo de incendios y su impacto a escala local, regional y global.
